Bond Capital Market Development

Banking

Description

Introduction

Well-developed capital markets have played a role in financing the corporate sector, but increasingly they are being looked at as a mechanism tht can potentially help channel private sector funding to strategic sectors of the economy that face huge financing gaps, such as sovereign debt to finance economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, sustainable city finance, public services such as hospitals, schools, housing, infrastructure, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and climate change. Thus, it is important for stakeholders to have a common understanding of the drivers of capital markets development and potential sequencing issues, as well as on the impact that capital markets development could have on economic growth and financial stability.
